Ebony Diamonds
/
While at Virginia State College, Rodney Dorsey, Carroll Ellis Jr., and Ray Crawley were brought together by a love of music. As "Essence," a gospel a capella group, they performed at school talent shows and small clubs, captivating audiences with heartfelt harmonies and a magnetic stage presence. Eventually, they would rebrand as "Ebony Diamond," and record "I'm So Lucky" with producer Bernard Smith in 1979.
After languishing in storage for decades, the single was released in 2014, on the UK bedroom soul label Super Disco Edits. Now, Ebony Diamonds comes home with a US version – and a previously unreleased instrumental – on a 7-inch.
